Board of Governors, Rules Chairman, Master Judge
I became involved with CGA
in 1987. I attended a District 1
show in San Martin. My first impression was what a wonderful family oriented
organization this was. Of course at that time CGA didn't have nearly as many
members as it does now.
My daughter Danna was 2 years old and my son Wesley was 8 years old back then.
Wesley wasn't interested in horses, but Danna sure was. So Dave (my husband),
Danna and I all rode. Danna and Dave shared "Chip Quixote" and I was riding
"Miss Tina" who is now 30 years old!
Keeping CGA a safe,
fun
family I attended my first CGA
State Championship Show
in King City in 1988. Back then, you could hold the show over a long weekend.
It was 1989 when I became a CGA
Judge,
having taken my Judge's test with Jerry Davis and Bob Eakes at Graham Hills
show grounds in Felton. I had apprenticed under Bob, and Jerry was often our
announcer at our District 1
shows. I have been on the District 1 board for many years, was the
District Delegate
for a few years,
District
Secretary a few times and somehow was President for a year (the same year District
1 lost the famous Marcucci Arena due to a county regulation). I also served
on the Board of District 7,
when they were in Santa Cruz and in fact was their only
Judge
for almost 2 years. I also served on the District
16 Board for many years.
Somewhere along the way, Jerry Davis asked me to serve as the CGA State
Treasurer
which I did. I received my 10 year State Show Judge's Buckle in 1999. After
Jerry Davis retired, and the
Board of Governors
was established, I was asked to become part of that group in 2000. I have been
a Governor ever since. I was especially pleased when I was asked to set up the
State Show Medical Team and help
Lyn Paulos
with "Cornball Follies" which I have done for the past few years. I have not
missed a State Show since 1988. I was nominated to become a
Master Judge
in 2001 and received my Master Judges buckle in 2002. I am presently serving
as the Chairperson for the
Master Judges Advisory Committee.
I feel very fortunate to be part of the dedicated group of CGA members who continue
to work very hard to help CGA grow and prosper. There have been some rough times,
but the good times far out weigh the others. I have many years of wonderful
memories, and have made some life long friends through CGA. I hope to continue
to help this wonderful organization grow, not only in membership but in running
CGA like the business it is. To make sure that we establish the ground work
for this organization to run smoothly and financially sound into the future.
To have CGA be a place where families can participate and compete with their
horses in a friendly and fun atmosphere.
