Skip Hofman
President-Elect, Elected Director At Large
I started in CGA in 1999
because I made a promise to my oldest daughter when she was 3 years old that when
she turned 9 she could have a horse. So the horse came and now we needed something
to do with this horse, I wasn’t just going to feed it and let it stand around and
do nothing. We attended a show at
District 7 and I was hooked. That year I took my oldest 2 daughters
to state show to watch and see what it was all about and that was the last time
I went and just watched! Match races really sucked me in.
The
State Championship Show
was the first state show that my family attended. That year at state show I became
aware of the tractors being used and decided to get involved in the equipment end
of the show. I knew I could get the tractors and equipment for a lot less than what
CGA was able to get them for. So I found out who to talk to and from then on I have
been able to lock in deals for the state show equipment.
In 2003 I was the Vice President of
District 7 and then I became President of
District 7 for 2 years. I became a
Judge
in 2003 and judged my first state show in 2004. I have also been co-management of
Northern
Classic
when it was held at District 7.
This year I was part of the grounds crew at
Northern
Classic
that was hosted by District 1.
I was able to get a tractor donated for that show and have been able to provide
tractors to past
Northern
Classic
shows.
Keeping CGA a safe,
fun
family The
State Championship Show
show used to have a barbeque on Saturday, the last day of the show, but CGA did
away with it. After one year of no barbeque, Roger Odom and I decided we could do
the barbeque for a reasonable expense and so now for the last 2 years he and I,
with help from others, put the State Show Barbeque on for around 600 people, were
dead afterwards but its a lot of fun.
I decided I wanted to do more at the state level so in 2000 I attended the
Annual Convention
and started going to all the
Board of Directors
meetings and any other meeting I was able to attend. I then became a district delegate
for 2 years and then later an
Elected Director At Large
for 2 years.
In 2007, I was elected
President
of CGA, for the term ending in 2009.
I have enjoyed my years in CGA and I have made many new friends in CGA at all the
districts I have traveled to.
Thanks for the friendship, and support CGA riders and families.
